Can functionality be behind a login?
Hello!
I’m looking for clarification on a detail in Section 6, Application Requirements, which states that submissions should be “publicly accessible and not require a login or paywall.”
My project is a mobile application and users must create an account to access the app. While the app does include a paid tier, all functionality is fully accessible through a free tier, and no payment is required for reviewers to explore or evaluate the product. For the “public project link,” the submission would be an iOS App Store link rather than a public website.
Can the app require users to log in?
Can a paid tier exist, as long as the functionality is able to be tested without payment?
Would an iOS App Store link be acceptable as long as the app is publicly available on the App Store and otherwise complies with the guidelines?
Thank you for the clarification!

Hi there,
Thanks for participating in this hackathon. Good questions. While the rules are true, I would recommend creating a test login for judges to use and providing the login info in your submission materials so they do not need to create an account.
You can have a paid tier, but the judges must be able to test your project for free also noting that judges may rely on the demo video and may or may not test your project.
If you provide a link to an ios app store link, you will also need to provide a link to your public code repo.
Good luck!
